New Food Safety Management Mark Launched by NSAI - Minister Ahern Presents Awards to Eight Companies
14 April 2003 - The NSAI today unveiled a new Food Safety Management Mark that is awarded to companies or organisations that qualify for the existing Standard I.S. 343:2000. This Standard describes the essential components and requirement needed for food operations to implement and operate effective food safety management systems. The new Safety Management Mark can be displayed in a public area by the recipient company or organisation as a visible acknowledgement of the safety systems that they have in place. At a ceremony in the Clarion Hotel Limerick the Minister for Trade and Commerce, Michael Ahern, presented eight organisations and companies with the I.S. 343:2000 and the new Safety Management Mark from the NSAI. The Groups receiving the standard for their high quality food preparation and production included: 1. Heineken Ireland 2. Ballina Beverages 3. Golden Vale Dairies 4. Supervalue 5. Wheatfield Prison 6. Hewlett Packard 7. Glanbia 8. O’Reilly Fresh Products Commenting on the award of the I.S. 343 and the launch of the new Food Safety Management Mark, Mr. Dan Tierney, Chairman of the NSAI said: “All these companies and organisations have reached and surpassed the most rigorous standards set by the NSAI to ensure the absolute safety of the food that they are producing or preparing on site. They are to be commended for responding to customer’s desires for the highest levels of excellence when it comes to food preparation. They have certainly earned the right to display our new Food Safety Management Mark with pride and their customers can take comfort in knowing that they are dealing with a company that believes in the very highest standards of food safety”.
