Lisbon's Oceanarium received two new species: the NP EN ISO 9001:2000 and the NP EN ISO 14001:1999They were awarded by APCER On 29 January 2004 APCER, the Portuguese Certification Association, awarded the Quality and Environmental Management Systems certificates to the Lisbon's Oceanarium. The official ceremony was attended by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Dr. Jorge Sampaio, the Minister for Urban Affairs, Territorial Planning and Environment, Dr. Amílcar Theias, and the President of APCER, Engº Mário Secca, among others. Thus, it became the first public European aquarium to obtain an integrated certification, according to NP EN ISO 9001:2000 and NP EN ISO 14001:1999 standards, for the scope of exposition design and maintenance, and associated recreational, educational and commercial activities. "Certifying Lisbon's Oceanarium means one step ahead in the fulfilment of its noble mission, focused, as it is known, in the oceans' defence and in the environment preservation" states Mário Secca, President of APCER.
