Reduction of Corrosion Cost National Mission or Business AdministrationCorrosion costs may be considered as a fraction of the total costs of poor quality. The direct corrosion costs have been estimated as high as 3 - 5% of the GNP in various countries. The International Association NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers - International), including more than 15,000 specialists from all over the world, gives references to the issue as part of its declared mission. The Israeli section (NACE- ISRAEL), with collaboration of the Association of Engineers and Architects in Israel (AEAI), has undertaken the mission of trying to reduce corrosion costs in Israel. An interdisciplinary forum has been voluntarily formed to analyze possibilities. The forum consists of people from the Universities, industry, government-related positions and The Standards Institution of Israel. It has been decided to continue activity. A target of 25% reduction has been suggested. During the discussion the following issues were raised:
The first meeting of the forum took place under the auspices of The Israel Electric Corp. Ltd. The second meeting was held at the Oil Refineries Ltd. (Haifa) on 26 February 2004. The following issues will be discussed: Estimation of the corrosion loss in Refinery Industry, Quality Cost System - A method to reduce corrosion costs, and estimation of corrosion costs and proper strategies for its decrease in Israel.
